Chris recently had an unfortunate two day battle with an unnamed virus. Chills, fever, and booming headache and an eye infection, but his powerful immune system prevailed. Fortunately, there is a wilderness emergency medical technician (WEMT) course in progress at the Ranch, with a group of students and instructors from Montana here for 25 days. It was comforting to have three EMT instructors looking after Chris while he recuperated.
While Chris was down and out, Mia made a big field trip to an indigenous reserve where many people are living without electricity. The trip required driving an ancient and dilapidated Land Rover (complete with a choke and locking hubs) along a four wheel drive road for an hour, then setting off on horseback from there. Despite riding for nearly two hours though incredible mountain scenery with six river crossings, the experience was largely wasted on Mia, who continues to have a disagreeable history with horses and would have much preferred walking. She did find some great candidate sites for solar installations and it was a memorable experience.
