24 Hours on a Bus

Being the budget travelers that we are, we decided to take a long bus ride, a 24-hour bus ride, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Puerto Iguazu, Argentina, instead of a pricey plane ticket. The +940 mile trip would bring us to Iguazu Falls, a ridiculously huge series of waterfalls, three times the size of Niagara Falls, on the border of Argentina and Brazil.

Much to our surprise, the 24 hours on the bus was…ok. We took a double-decker Mercedes bus with nearly horizontal reclining seats (although Mia’s seat, just as she was about to fall asleep, would tend to pop back up into the vertical position). Chris, the Entertainment Manager of the trip, selected the appropriate films, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey. Mia suffered through Excellent Adventure and then had to admit that Bogus Journey was…ok.

The roads were relatively smooth, there were scheduled pee breaks at the appropriate times, the truck stop restaurants were not bad, and the scenery was like Iowa. Here are some photos of the journey.
