To get from Mendoza, Argentina, to Santiago, Chile, we took a double-decker bus over the Andes through the Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) pass. On the Argentinean side, the road climbs gradually to about 11,000 feet in elevation. On the Chilean side, traffic descends rapidly through about 30 tight switchbacks. We had a front row panoramic view of the journey.
We were supposed to make this trip a day earlier, but a snow storm caused the pass to be closed. So we ended up with only one day to explore Santiago, but we found it to be a beautiful, friendly and easy to navigate city with a huge city park.

Mia was a bit too dehydrated for the journey and experienced a little altitude sickness at the 10,000 ft border crossing - oops.
