Arrival in Queretaro, Mexico

After giving notice at work, we purchased two one-way tickets from Seattle to Queretaro, Mexico, with frequent flier miles that Chris didn't even realize he was earning over the years (gracias a Mia). We arrived in Queretaro, a peaceful little town where the people are fiercly proud of the town's history. The Mexican Consitution was signed here, and there are monuments, plazas, and restored mansions with hand-cut bricks around every corner.

We are into our third day of intensive language training. We signed up for 5 hours a day and, thanks to the swine flu, the two of us make up half the student population at the school, which means that most of our lessons are one-on-one. We will soon be dreaming in Spanish.

Chris has been eating chicken as if it were a delicacy he has been deprived of for 10 years - which it is. Our host family makes everything - salsa, tortillas, mole, coffee (roasted in their kitchen!), fruit juices, a different kind of soup every day - from scratch, mostly with ingredients from their own garden. Although our host mom promises that tortillas do not make you fat, we will be instituting an exercise regime...right after we institute a siesta.
