Oaxaca City
On our way from intensive Spanish language study in Queretaro we made a two night stopover in Oaxaca City - a nice way to break up 15 hours of bus riding to the coastal town of Puerto Escondido. We were fortunate enough to connect with two "couch surfers", Hillary and Willem, who had just moved to the city themselves and were happy to host us in their cozy apartment. The second night was especially comforting because we basically did nothing, just had a simple but tasty dinner at "home" and watched a movie with Hillary and Willem. Ahhh simple pleasures.
Oaxaca itself is a good place - beautiful architecture, friendly people. Besides wandering around the markets and art galleries, we spent a significant amount of time in the Museo de las Culturas de Oaxaca, which is housed in an old monastery. Chris' favorite painting was of the lesser known vegan, raw-foods Last Supper.
